OXENHOPE Cricket Club is pitching in to help celebrate the Queen's platinum jubilee.

The club is organising an event on Sunday, June 5, at its Uppertown ground.

And other organisations within the community have been contacted, in the hope they may wish to get involved.

"It's early days but a small sub-committee has been formed and planning for the event has begun," said a club spokesperson.

"We are hoping it will be a celebration involving the whole village."

The event will run from early afternoon. Guests will include a member of the West Yorkshire Lieutenancy, which represents the Queen in this region.

A four-day bank holiday, from June 2 to 5, is taking place to mark the Queen's 70 years on the throne.

There will be public events and community activities across the UK, as well as national moments of reflection planned to mark the monarch's historic decades of service.
