A HOUSEBUILDER is urging more women to consider a career in construction.

Barratt Developments Yorkshire West says it is dedicated to diversifying the industry.

At present, only around ten per cent of the construction sector workforce is female.

As part of its campaign, Barratt is spotlighting workers including Angel Matthews – who joined the company as an apprentice carpenter and joiner at its Saxon Dene development in Silsden – and senior strategic land manager Jennifer Winyard, a member of the Yorkshire and North East Committee for Women in Property.

Ian Ruthven, managing director of Barratt Developments Yorkshire West, said: "We’re really proud to be championing women in construction roles.

"We are dedicated to working with the very best talent in order to deliver much-needed homes. We hope that our aim to increase awareness of the opportunities available within the industry will encourage more women to consider the numerous career paths."
