THE chairman of a local rugby club has been admitted to hospital following a positive Covid-19 test.

Keighley Cougars confirmed the news concerning stalwart Mick O'Neill MBE this morning.

The Betfred League One club tweeted: "The club can this morning confirm that chairman Mick O'Neill MBE has been admitted to hospital following a recent positive test for Covid-19.

"All our thoughts & best wishes are with Mick, and we can't wait to welcome him back home to Cougar Park."

In 2020, Mr O'Neill was awarded an MBE for services to rugby league and the community – and to charity during the Covid-19 pandemic.

O'Neill chaired the Lawkholme club in the 1990s during the height of 'Cougarmania'.

He returned to Cougar Park about four years ago as part of a takeover following several months of turmoil, which had seen the club placed in special measures by the Rugby Football League.
