STEETON’S season ended with heartbreak as they crashed out of the Macron Cup at the first time of asking.

A 3-2 defeat at Barnoldswick Town meant Roy Mason’s Chevrons campaign is over.

Barnoldswick, who play in the North West Counties League Premier Division, took a fourth minute lead as Kamar Moncrieffe fired home the opener.

A close range finish into the bottom left after a good delivery from the left flank in challenging wet conditions.

Steeton, playing in their luminous yellow shirts, recovered from this early blow as Andy Briggs hit the cross bar on 18 minutes.

They soon equalised as Kayle Price tapped home on 34 minutes.

Barlick then took control of the contest as Kuda Chingwaro made it 2-1 to the hosts in the 72nd minute.

Town extended their lead and their dominance in the latter stages of the tie as they scored with 10 minutes remaining.

Alex Moloney fired home the third as he rifled it into the bottom left corner of the net on the rebound of a blocked shot.

The third Barnoldswick strike followed a triple substitution by Steeton as they looked to get back into the tie.

Price grabbed Steeton’s second in the 88th minute, which proved to be a mere consolation as Mason’s men missed out a clash with Bury in the second round of the Macron Cup.

Meanwhile, Steeton finished 12th in the North West Counties League First Division North on 47 points from 36 games.

This tally included 14 wins, five draws and 17 defeats. Steeton scored 78 goals and conceded 89.

Steeton ended up 11 points off the final play-off place, as Bury took the First Division North title.
