A HOUSING boss has welcomed Bradford's success in the contest to become UK City of Culture 2025.
Lee Bloomfield – chief executive of Manningham Housing Association, which manages more than 1,400 properties in Keighley and Bradford – said the win was "fantastic news".
He adds the achievement must be used to help tackle disparities faced by deprived communities.
Mr Bloomfield said: "I congratulate everyone involved with the bid.
"Bradford people have endured a succession of disappointments stretching back many years, most recently when the city was told it would not be getting Northern Powerhouse Rail.
"The increased profile, investment and footfall that will come with UK City of Culture status must be harnessed to reduce the disparities faced by deprived communities in Bradford and Keighley.
"With partners, we look forward to playing our full part in helping to extract every benefit from this achievement for the district and its people."
