TWO neighbouring Keighley landmarks will soon be gone.
Redundant gas holders, which have stood for years at Marley, are being demolished.
Northern Gas Networks says it expects work on removing the structures, which are located just off the A650 Aire Valley trunk road, to be complete within three months.
Senior project manager, Mark Johnson, said: "Work to prepare the site began at the end of March and we are now in the process of safely dismantling the gas holders.
"The crowns on both the holders have been taken off, and our teams are now carrying out specialist work to safely remove the water inside and take down the frameworks.
"We expect to complete the removal of both holders by the middle of September."
Once the structures have gone, the voids will be filled in with inert material.
The site will remain an operational gas works.
Northern Gas Networks said the scheme was part of a wider programme to remove gas holders that had become redundant due to changes in technology, and were costly to maintain.
Last year, work began to demolish two gas containers in Bradford – at Canal Road and in Birskhall, between Leeds Road and Bowling Back Lane.
