DAREDEVILS are being urged to take the plunge to raise money for a Cross Roads-based charity.

An abseil down the 164ft tower of Wakefield Cathedral is being staged in support of Yorkshire Cat Rescue.

Entry to the event – on September 24 – costs £25, and participants are asked to raise at least £100 in sponsorship.

The minimum age for taking part is 15, and anyone under 18 will need the consent of a parent or guardian.

Jo Beverley, fundraiser for the charity, said: "We held a very successful abseil in Harrogate last year, which everyone enjoyed. We can’t wait for this year's event.

"Yorkshire Cat Rescue, which exists to save the lives of abandoned and unwanted cats and kittens, doesn't receive any Government support so relies heavily on events like these."
