A woman said to be the first surviving victim of the Yorkshire Ripper has died, aged 75.

Anne Rogulskyj - known at the time as Anna Rogulski - was hit over the head with a hammer and her stomach slashed open in an alleyway off Alice Street, Keighley, in July, 1975. She was left slumped in a doorway with a gaping wound to her head and survived extensive surgery in Leeds General Infirmary, during which a steel plate was fitted to her skull.

Mrs Rogulskyj, who later denied Peter Sutcliffe was her attacker, died in Airedale Hospital earlier this month.

Her funeral took place at Oakworth Cremator-ium last Thursday. Sutcliffe, a lorry driver from Bingley, was eventually tried on 13 counts of murder and sentenced to life in prison in 1981.

Mrs Rogulskyj, was living in Highfield Lane, Keighley, at the time of the attack.
