FIREFIGHTERS were called out to a bedroom blaze at Long Lee this afternoon.

The fire extensively damaged the first-floor room of the semi-detached property, in Moss Carr Road.

Smoke detectors had activated, alerting the householder early, and he used an extinguisher to put out the fire before firefighters arrived.

Watch commander Ahsan Ali, of Keighley fire station, says: "The fire and smoke damage was severe – but thanks to the smoke detectors and the householder's actions, damage was contained to the bedroom.

"This shows once again the value of having smoke detectors installed."

Crews from Keighley, Bingley and Silsden fire stations were called out to the incident initially. But Bingley and Silsden weren't required.

The fire was caused by a faulty electrical appliance.
