KEIGHLEY Conservative MP Robbie Moore has voiced concerns at "substantial delays" to the start of the Government’s national inquiry into grooming gangs.
He and the Rotherham Labour MP Sarah Champion have written to the Home Office seeking clarity on when a chair will be appointed for the inquiry.
"We are extremely concerned that the failure to make progress on the appointment of a chair is leading to substantial delays in the inquiry beginning its crucial work," they say in the letter.
"We strongly believe that the inquiry should be tightly focussed and avoid the sprawling scope that hindered the work of the previous independent inquiry into child sexual exploitation.
"Yet four months on from the Government’s announcement that an inquiry would be commissioned, there remains no clarity on its scope, remit or terms of reference or the resources at its disposal."
A Home Office spokesperson says: "The abuse of children by grooming gangs is one of the most horrific crimes imaginable.
"We will do everything in our power to ensure these crimes never happen again.
"We are working urgently to appoint the best chair to take forward this work, to get to the truth and deliver justice to the survivors."
