A utility company's trust fund is helping people in Keighley clear their energy debts.
The British Gas Energy Trust operates its Individuals and Families Fund (I&F), a support scheme that provides grants of up to £1,700 for individuals and families struggling with energy bills.
The scheme is available to customers of any supplier with credit or prepayment meter accounts who have fallen into energy debt.
According to British Gas, individuals must live in England, Scotland, or Wales, have an active energy account in their name and should have received money advice within the last six months to be eligible for the grant.
Support from the fund helped Miss L, a 28-year-old living alone in a local authority property, who faced long-term financial hardship was worsened by personal tragedies, including the suicide of a close friend and incidents of domestic violence.
Miss L lost her job, which resulted in her falling behind with her household bills including her energy bills.
Through the British Gas Energy Trust’s Individuals and Families Fund, Miss L received an energy grant of £1,280.
This cleared her energy debt and allowed her to work towards future bill management.
