A BUILDING society has pledged to keep open all its branches – including an outlet at Low Street, Keighley – until at least 2030.
Nationwide, which also owns Virgin Money, has made the commitment as many banking institutions continue to withdraw from the high street.
A number of banks have shut their Keighley branches in recent years – NatWest closed in the summer, Virgin Money vacated its North Street premises in early 2022 – prior to the Nationwide acquisition – and nearby Lloyds Bank closed its doors in late 2023.
Barclays also shut its branch, although it operates a service from the civic centre.
Nationwide says the number of customers using its branches has increased by 11 per cent during the past year.
A spokesperson says: "Branch closures have a disproportionate impact on vulnerable customers, including older people, many of whom rely on face-to-face services and support.
"Our customers can be confident that they're able to bank with us whichever way they choose.
"Branches are important to our customers, to communities and the health of our high streets. That’s why Nationwide will continue to keep all its 696 branches open, in addition to our investment in online and telephone channels."
