Millions in funding have been secured to support economic growth and create new job opportunities.

York and North Yorkshire have been allocated £40 million from a government investment package aimed at boosting productivity, attracting investment and delivering economic growth.

The funding, announced as part of a £902 million local growth fund during the Budget, follows York and North Yorkshire’s Growth Plan being one of the first to receive formal government approval.

David Skaith, Mayor of York and North Yorkshire, said: "This is a big vote of confidence in our plan for good growth, supporting us to invest in good quality jobs, more affordable homes, and better connectivity.

"All of these things will make people's lives in York and North Yorkshire better.

"This is a £40 million investment to back the plan we developed with the people who live, work, and do business here."

The region’s Local Growth Plan focuses on strengthening the economy by building on established sectors and supporting emerging industries.

Key sectors highlighted include manufacturing, visitor economy, food and farming innovation, engineering biology and life sciences, clean energy, rail innovation, security, and the creative industries.

The plan aims to create jobs, increase the value of the economy, boost productivity, and attract more investment.
