A pet trust has revealed the most dangerous treats for people's dogs this Christmas.
Dogs Trust, the UK’s largest dog welfare charity, has issued a warning ahead of the Christmas season, reminding owners that many traditional treats can cause serious harm to pets.
The charity’s Leeds branch has shared eight seasonal safety tips, including avoiding foods containing grapes, raisins, sultanas, chocolate, onions, garlic, leeks, macadamia nuts, avocado, and products with xylitol.
Charlie Dobson, senior veterinary surgeon at Dogs Trust, said: "We all want our dogs to feel part of the Christmas celebrations, but the best gift you can give them this Christmas is keeping them safe in their happy place.
"It only takes a few simple steps to protect them from festive food hazards, and in doing so, you’ll ensure they spend the holidays exactly where they belong, right by your side, as you make those special memories together."
According to recent Petplan data, claims for grape and raisin poisoning have risen by 49 per cent compared to chocolate poisoning so far this year.
The charity also warns against feeding dogs rich human foods such as pigs in blankets and gravy, and reminds owners that cooked bones can splinter and cause serious internal injuries.
