Yorkshire Water is urging people to protect their homes from burst pipes.
The warning comes as a spell of wintry weather brings snow and ice across the region, with more snow forecast in the coming days.
Joe Hands, head of water distribution at Yorkshire Water, said: "Cold weather can lead to an increase in leaks and bursts, both in private properties and on our underground network that transports water across the region.
"It is important people check pipes, taps, cisterns, tanks, and water meters in unheated areas that might be exposed to the cold.
"There are lots of tips on our website that customers can follow on how to get their homes winter ready and protect them from unexpected bursts."
The company is advising customers to insulate exposed pipes, especially in unheated areas such as attics, basements, garages, and external walls, to prevent freezing and bursts.
Yorkshire Water also warned that cold conditions could increase ground movement, leading to more leaks in its underground mains network.
Members of the public are encouraged to report leaks spotted on pavements and roads through the Yorkshire Water website, where more information and advice can also be found.
