A WORLD-famous choir has launched a recruitment drive.
Steeton Male Voice Choir – like many other musical groups and community organisations – suffered a dip in membership following the introduction of restrictions and enforced periods of lockdown associated with the Covid-19 pandemic.
Numbers have steadily recovered, but now the choir is seeking to further bolster its ranks ahead of this year's performances.
Duncan Smith, the choir's chair, says: "If you’re a man who likes to sing, then you are the man for us.
"We're looking to begin 2026 by bolstering all four sections of the choir, from bass to top tenor, and there’s no better time to join.
"We start the year by introducing new pieces to our repertoire, so existing members and new recruits will all be learning together in good time for performances later in the year.
"If you are looking for a new and stimulating challenge in 2026 – one that will bring you fun, friendship and fraternity – then why not join us? Singers with previous choral experience or none at all are welcome."
Rehearsals are held at Steeton Methodist Church – in Skipton Road – on Mondays, from 6.45pm to 9pm, under the baton of musical director Cathy Sweet.
The choir's repertoire ranges from male voice choir standards to arrangements of folk songs, pop hits and numbers from stage and screen.
Just before Christmas, the three latest recruits were presented with their Steeton Male Voice Choir red jackets.
Lee Wallace has joined the first tenors, Richard Breese the basses and John Foster the second tenors.
All had come forward after hearing the choir perform at concerts.

Duncan adds: "You don’t need to be able to read music and you’ll be warmly welcomed into a group which performs locally and further afield, including tours and trips away. Plans for 2026 include a joint concert with Driffield MVC in Beverley Minster, which will be part of a weekend away."
Steeton Male Voice Choir was founded around 118 years ago and has earned international acclaim, performing to audiences across the UK and overseas.
