A Leeds-Bradford based Jet2.com staff member has been named among the UK’s latest cohort of aviation ambassadors.
Abdullah Bin Sajit Butt, who works as an operations assistant for the airline, has been selected as one of the Department for Transport’s newly announced ambassadors for the national Aviation Ambassador programme.
The scheme aims to inspire the next generation to pursue careers in aviation by promoting opportunities, skills and training through outreach in schools, colleges, and youth organisations.
Mr Butt, who is based in Bradford, manages disruption to Jet2.com flights across Europe and the UK.
He said: "A career at Jet2.com means working in the incredible world of aviation, an industry which creates and develops fantastic careers for people from all walks of life.
"Through my Aviation Ambassador role, I am so excited to be able to showcase the many things that makes aviation such a fascinating industry to work in, from the technical side of operations right through to the sheer joy of taking customers on their holidays."
Keir Mather, aviation minister, said: "Aviation is full of exciting opportunities and fulfilling career paths, and we’re determined to encourage more young people to see the sector as a place where they can thrive and build rewarding, long-term futures.
"Our Aviation Ambassadors are key to making that happen – sharing their own journeys, helping to break down barriers, and showing the sky really is the limit.
"By broadening horizons, we’re helping to secure the future of UK aviation while delivering regional growth, jobs and skills."
A spokesperson for the Department for Transport said in a statement: "The initiative is part of the Generation Aviation programme, which sees government and industry working together to help build an aviation workforce fit for the future and attract diverse, talented people."
Other ambassadors in the new cohort include former Red Arrows chief engineer Ross Priday, East Midlands Airport operations director Lauren Turner, London-based aviation influencer Miguel Cabrera Vivas, and Luton Airport firefighter David Gardner.
The ambassadors will promote roles across aviation, from ground operations and airfield safety to commercial flying, customer service and aviation law.
The Department for Transport says the outreach, through school talks, industry events and digital media, aims to reach underrepresented communities and individuals who may not have previously considered a career in the sector.
The new ambassadors are set to begin their roles on Wednesday, January 28.
