SOUTH Craven residents are set to pay more for their policing.
A proposed 4.67 per cent precept rise will be considered on Thursday (February 5) by North Yorkshire's police, fire and crime panel.
York and North Yorkshire mayor David Skaith has put forward the proposal, which would see householders in a Band D property pay £335.86 in 2026-27 – £15 more than at present.
Mr Skaith says: "Our emergency services do an amazing job. It’s vital they have the resources, but I’m also mindful that when family finances are tight, every pound of public money must be spent wisely.
"Our priority is keeping people in York and North Yorkshire safe. Crime is coming down in key areas, with over 1,000 fewer people being victims in the past year.
"We've doubled the mayor’s community fund for early intervention and prevention – enabling more community projects to stop crime before it happens, support vulnerable people and strengthen neighbourhoods across our region, ensuring people are safe and feel safe.
"In setting the precept, I’ve focused on balancing the services people rightly expect with placing the minimum burden on households."
The police, fire and crime panel meeting takes place at County Hall, Northallerton, at 10.30am.
