Search the Public Notice PortalKEIGHLEY Conservative MP Robbie Moore has had a ministerial meeting to discuss much-delayed footbridge plans.
He met with Local Transport minister Lilian Greenwood to press for action over the scheme – to build a pedestrian and cycle bridge spanning the A629, between Steeton and Silsden.
The meeting came after Mr Moore, speaking in the Commons, had criticised the cost of the scheme – which he said had spiralled to £24m – and likened the design to a "bizarre Scalextric track".
He presented Ms Greenwood with photos of the design concept and cost projections from Labour-run Bradford Council and transport authorities, and outlined current safety risks.
Mr Moore says: "Following on from my intervention in Parliament, I've now met with the minister to discuss the utterly bizarre designs for the bridge and the ridiculous spiralling of costs.
"The minister has agreed to take this up with local authorities and transport organisations in charge of the project."
Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw – Bradford Council’s executive member for regeneration, planning and transport – has said the current cost estimate for the bridge is £13m, not £24m.
And he described the project as "geographically complex" due to land ownerships, flood plain status and ground conditions.
