A “depraved” man who raped a child has been handed an extended prison sentence of 29 years.
Joshua Moore will not be able to apply for parole until 2039.
Sentencing him at Bradford Crown Court, Mr Recorder Mark McKone KC described Moore’s crimes as “horrific” and “depraved” and said he posed a high risk of further offending.
Moore, 32, of Buxton Street in Keighley, was convicted by a jury after a trial.
Prosecutor Chloe Fairley said Moore raped his victim and recorded his abuse on a mobile phone.
The impact of Moore’s offending had left the child scared, suffering from bad dreams and flashbacks. The court heard the child had been “put through hell”.
Mitigating, Jayne Beckett said Moore’s mental health had been very poor and there had been suicide concerns, which had since been overcome.
She acknowledged what she described as his “absolutely abhorrent and extremely serious offending”.
Sentencing Moore, who appeared via video link from HMP Leeds, Recorder McKone said he had made “a finely balanced decision” not to jail him for life.
He noted that he continued to deny his offending.
He handed Moore an extended sentence of 29 years with 24 years in custody and a further five years on licence.
Moore will have to register as a sex offender for life.
Recorder McKone said: “You have committed grave offences, and you pose a high risk of further offending.
“You will be able to apply for parole after you have served two-thirds of 24 years – that is 16 years.
“Time on remand will count towards the two-thirds.
“You were remanded into custody on December 26, 2023. You should be able to apply for parole on December 26 of 2039.
“The parole board will consider whether your current high risk has reduced sufficiently to release you.”
