A cricket business is celebrating ten years in business.
Viking Cricket, based in Silsden and founded by Jeff Wilson, began in 2016 as a small start-up and has grown into a globally recognised brand.
The company now supplies handmade bats, crafted from English willow using traditional methods, to both amateur and professional players.
The business has since expanded its reach across the UK and abroad, earning praise for its focus on quality and craftsmanship.
Wilson said: "We're incredibly proud to reach ten years.
"It hasn’t always been easy, especially through Covid and some personal challenges along the way, but the support from the local community and the wider cricket world has been unbelievable.
"We started with a simple idea, to make great bats and look after our customers.
"And that’s still what drives us today."
Despite its growth, Viking Cricket has faced its share of challenges.
The company managed to stay afloat during the Covid-19 pandemic, which disrupted retail and grassroots sports.
More recently, it continued operations during Wilson’s hospitalisation with a cancerous tumour.
Throughout, the business has relied on what Wilson describes as "Yorkshire grit," as well as family support and a loyal customer base.
Viking Cricket has maintained strong links with the local cricket scene, supplying clubs, supporting youth players, and sponsoring emerging talent.
The company has also developed specialist equipment, including the Valkyrie range designed specifically for women and girls, addressing longstanding gaps in cricket gear.
Its products have been trusted by county and international players, with some bats even making appearances on televised matches.
Wilson said: "When we see our bats being used on television in the Big Bash or test cricket, it’s a fantastic feeling.
"We are also an official partner of the PlayStation game Cricket 24 and knowing people could use the same bat they were playing with on a Saturday when they are at home on their console is an amazing feeling."
Despite its global reach, Viking Cricket remains firmly rooted in Silsden and is a family-run business.
Wilson said: "To still be here ten years later means everything.
"We’re excited for what comes next and grateful to everyone who’s been part of the journey so far."
As the company looks to the future, it has announced plans to expand into new territory with the launch of Viking Hockey.
The new venture will launch in summer 2026 and will offer a range of hockey sticks and equipment in addition to its established cricket products.
Wilson said the next chapter of growth will build on the same values that have defined Viking Cricket: quality, customer care, and community support.
He also credited the company’s achievements to the backing it has received from Silsden and beyond.
He said: "We wouldn’t be here without the ongoing encouragement of our customers, partners, and cricket fans.
"It’s been a real team effort and we’re looking forward to continuing the journey together."
