MORE than one million pensioners are set to benefit from a rise in payments.
Around 1.04 million retirees in Yorkshire and the Humber will see a boost to their state pension from today, Monday, April 6, thanks to a 4.8 per cent rise under the pensions triple lock – outpacing the current inflation rate of three per cent.
Pat McFadden, Labour’s Work and Pensions Secretary, said: "I know global shocks, and the effects they have on our living costs, will be increasing anxiety for many households.
"That’s why the Prime Minister was right to ignore the calls of Reform and the Tories to jump headfirst into the conflict.
"This Labour government will always protect our pensioners and support people who deserve a decent retirement.
"That's why we are raising the full rate of new State Pension by up to £575 this coming year, and supporting retirees with money off their energy bills."
The increase amounts to £575 a year for those on the full new state pension.
Those on the basic state pension will see a rise of around £440 annually.
The announcement follows the Prime Minister's stated commitment to easing the cost of living for families and pensioners.
Other recent measures include energy bill reductions and support for vulnerable households.
