SIGHTS and sounds of wartime Britain are to be recreated on a world-famous steam heritage railway.
The Keighley & Worth Valley Railway is staging its second annual 1940s Weekend.
During the event – which runs from Friday, May 15, to Sunday, May 17 – each station along the five-mile line will host attractions including themed entertainment, re-enactors, vintage displays and live music.
And steam trains will be in operation throughout the weekend.
Activities will begin on the Friday evening with a 1940s dance, being held at Oxenhope Exhibition Shed.
Guests will be entertained by Kitty La Mare and The Ashby Little Big Band, performing classic wartime favourites alongside live vocals.
The evening will include a light supper. Doors open at 6pm, with dancing continuing until 10.30pm.
Tickets are priced £20 per person.
From 11am on both the Saturday and Sunday, there will be a full line-wide programme of attractions.
Oxenhope Exhibition Shed will host live performances, together with a vintage market and bar.
At Haworth, there will be re-enactors and a traditional tea dance in the courtyard marquee.
Visitors to Oakworth Station – made famous through the classic 1970 movie version of Edith Nesbit's novel, The Railway Children – can explore living history displays recreating aspects of wartime life.
Meanwhile, Ingrow and Keighley stations will host period entertainment too, and offer refreshments.
Passengers travelling on the trains will also encounter re-enactors, who will share wartime stories, and there'll be an onboard bar operating throughout the weekend.
Confirmed performers and participants at the event include Lady Lindy, Anthony Mason’s George Formby tribute, Blondies in Harmony, the Gas Light Trio, Haworth Home Guard, police and ARP re-enactors, Sir Arthur ‘Bomber’ Harris and Lady Ann, and the Hebden Bridge Ukulele Group.
Additional acts are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
A Keighley & Worth Valley Railway spokesperson says: "The 1940s Weekend offers a varied programme combining heritage rail travel, live entertainment and historical interpretation, providing a family-friendly event that celebrates the social history of wartime Britain.
"We will be recreating the sights and sounds of the period, transforming the line into a living history experience.
"Steam trains will operate throughout the weekend, carrying visitors between Keighley and Oxenhope.
"Visitors are encouraged to dress in 1940s-inspired attire to enhance the atmosphere, although this is not essential."
