DOG owners who miss restriction signs in public spaces could face fines of up to £1,000.
Dog owners are being urged to keep an eye out for signs as more people head outdoors this summer, with rules in force across parks, beaches and the countryside.
Amanda Roscoe, signage and print expert at Carrick Signs, said: "‘Dogs on leads’ signs are easy to miss, especially if you're somewhere where you normally let your dog run around.
"But the rules can be different from one place to another, so it’s worth taking a quick look at the signs before letting them off."
The signs are not just advisory.
If enforced through a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO), they carry legal weight and can result in a £100 fixed penalty notice or a court-issued fine of up to £1,000.
Other restrictions to watch for include seasonal exclusions, maximum dog numbers, and requirements to clean up dog waste.
