Haworth: Martinez Wines opens new wine bar and tapas venue

Martinez Wines has officially opened the doors to its site at 81 Main Street, formerly The Cloth Store and known to many locals as the former Embers premises, welcomed its first customers on Wednesday, September 23.

Owner Jonathan Cocker said the business saw an opportunity in the historic building and location despite the ongoing challenges facing the hospitality sector.

He said: "We thought the building and location were too good not to put a Martinez there.

"Hospitality, as most people recognise, is really tough at the moment.

"Net profit has almost halved so we figured we would counterbalance this by creating more turnover."

Building on the Martinez formula

The Haworth venue follows the model of the company's successful sites in Ilkley and Bingley.

Mr Cocker said the new branch will primarily operate as a wine bar serving authentic tapas dishes designed to complement its wines.

He added: "In Haworth we are predominantly a wine bar that does simple, authentic tapas to complement our wines, very much like our successful Ilkley and Bingley branches."

The venue also boasts an expanded selection of local and international draught beers and a strong focus on Yorkshire-produced drinks, including a dedicated Yorkshire gin menu.

Coffee, cakes and tapas

Martinez Haworth opens from 10am and serves artisan coffee, tea, milkshakes, locally made cakes and homemade frittata during the day.

Its full tapas menu is available from noon until 9pm.

The venue is dog-friendly downstairs and offers table service in both the downstairs area and conservatory.

Unlike the company's other sites, customers are also able to reserve tables by phone.

Live music and tasting events planned

A packed programme of events is already planned for the Haworth venue.

Weekly blues nights will take place on Wednesdays, while the company's popular Buskers Night will be held on the first Sunday of every month.

A monthly paella night is also planned, alongside regular wine tasting events and tastings for local clubs and charities.

New wine and cheese experience

Among the new features exclusive to the Haworth site is a "Pinchos" wine and cheese tasting experience.

The offering pairs four wines with four cheeses supplied by Courtyard Dairy, with advance booking recommended.

The retail section features around 60 wines, 20 spirits and approximately 20 local and international beers, allowing customers to take home products sampled in the venue.
