A luxury romantic getaway ended in horror when a 24-year-old Keighley man who “adored life” was found dead in Mexico.

Yesterday his shocked family spoke of a “town in mourning” for Adam Pemberton.

Adam had been in the middle of a luxury romantic getaway to Cancun with his fiancée Rosanna Broughan when tragedy struck.

His parents, Keith and Heather, flew out to Mexico after receiving the devastating news but all the authorities could definitively tell them was that Adam had fatally fallen from the balcony of his hotel, at Riu Caribe, in the early hours of Wednesday last week.

Keith, from Bracken Road, in Keighley, said although Adam had moved to Leeds, the whole town was mourning the loss of his big-hearted, fun-loving and extraordinary son.

He said: “He will never be forgotten, the town will still be talking about him in 20 years to come — he was that much of a character and touched that many lives.

“In his 24 years he did more than what 80 per cent of other people will ever do. He lived life to the full and when he walked into a room he radiated that to everybody and lit them up.”

Adam, a former Oakbank School pupil who travelled around the country working for construction company JN Bentley, met Rosanne while they were holidaying with friends in Ibiza a few years ago.

The pair soon got engaged and Adam became a father figure to Rosanne’s son Theo, aged four.

Theo was not on holiday with the pair at the time of the incident and Rosanne had gone to bed early with sunstroke.

She said of her large, gym-going finacee: “I just want to say how much me and Theo loved him, and what a great step dad he was.”

The family also thanked over 600 people who have joined a Facebook group dedicated to his memory.

Adam’s mum, Heather, said of her footballer son: “He was my beautiful boy. Only he will ever know what truly happened. We have been told it was a tragic accident, and for us that is what it is going to be.

“He text me while he was away to say how beautiful Mexico was, and he and Rosanne had even found a chapel they wanted to marry in there.

“I just want to hug him one last time.”

Adam, who loved baseline music and had a big smile, also leaves behind an older brother and sister Craig and Victoria, as well as several nephews and nieces.

Details of his funeral will appear in the Keighley News once his body has been released by the Mexican authorities.
