A Silsden boy in need of an operation which will allow him to walk will switch on the town’s Christmas lights later this month.

Six-year-old Evan Whitton, who suffers from cerebral palsy, will turn on the Christmas tree lights, in Silsden’s Memorial Gardens, on Sunday, November 28.

Silsden Gala committee has footed the bill for the lights and chairman Chris Atkinson is delighted that Evan will switch them on to conclude the town’s Christmas Market Day festivities.

The market day, which runs from 10am-4pm, will feature about 50 different stalls in Silsden Town Hall, on Briggate and in the Punch Bowl car park.

The lights switch-on will take place at 4.30pm.

Eight men took part in a 24-hour snooker marathon to raise money for Evan.

Andrew Whitton and his colleagues played non-stop to raise money for Andrew’s son.

The snooker marathon, at the Sunnybank Social Club, in Silsden, raised more than £2,000. The eight men — Andrew plus Tony and Dan Locke, Greg Lavelle, Oliver Hartley, Leon Smith, Jimmy Pickering and Darren Parker — played 54 frames of snooker and scored more than 5,000 points.
