A teenager keen to join the Army still has his dream in place after a judge sentenced him to a community order for a night-time street attack.
Christopher Spencer, 19, of Grafton Road, Keighley, admitted causing David Wellard actual bodily harm in Bingley on October 21.
Prosecutor Duncan Ritchie told Bradford Crown Court on Monday that Spencer carried out an unprovoked assault on Mr Wellard, punching him in the face causing bruising and a cut lip.
Spencer’s solicitor, Anne-Marie Hutton, asked Judge Peter Benson not to pass a sentence that would stop Spencer fulfilling his ambition to join the Army.
He had no previous convictions, had made full admissions and had spent time in custody.
Judge Benson sentenced Spencer to a 12-month community order with supervision and 60 hours of unpaid work.
