I want Christianity to be represented and interpreted in schools in Keighley without preaching. I want children to experience Christianity without feeling they’re being judged. I think the Christian way is the true way, but I want them ultimately to make up their own minds about their faith.

I also want a world where people get along together, no matter what race, colour or creed.

They may not agree with one another about every issue, but I want people to talk about those issues, and respect others’ rights to follow their own religion, or even no religion.

Jesus’ parable about the Good Samaritan was about loving your neighbour. And He pointed out that your neighbour could be someone who you would not immediately pick out as a friend I’ve been a volunteer and a trustee with CLiKS for many years. We want to make sure there’s a Christian presence in our schools. Our full-time worker speaks at assemblies in primary schools and runs after-school clubs and activities. We also have Rewind events in the Keighley Shared Church at Easter and Christmas, where children from schools in Keighley come together to take part in activities.

This is where, from my point of view, the second aim of CLiKs comes in. The children come and work together in groups, mix together, learn together, compete with one another and have some fun.

They are from all races, religions, and backgrounds. They are welcomed into the church. The church becomes a big activity centre, not a frightening place. They are neighbours. It may be a small step, but it’s a step towards learning to live together.
