A Keighley school is hosting a student from Japan for four months.

Holy Family Catholic School has welcomed 17-year-old Hazuki Kinoshita – a pupil at Kyoto Gakuen Junior and Senior High School, Kyoto.

After her first eight days in Keighley she said she liked the district’s scenery, but was finding the weather a little cold.

During her time at Holy Family she will be brushing up on her English and attending AS-level classes in film studies, art, product design and Japanese language.

Holy Family language college director, Eileen Llewellyn, said the arrangement with the school in Kyoto was reciprocal, so Holy Family students studying Japanese may have a future opportunity to study at their partner school.

She said Hazuki was the second student from Kyoto to visit Holy Family – another year 12 pupil from Kyoto Gakuen spent four months in Keighley last year.

Holy Family has had a link with Kyoto Gakuen since 2005.

The relationship was formalised last year when the Japanese school’s principal and its general administrative director came to visit Holy Family.

Ms Llewellyn said Holy Family was continuing to offer adult evening classes in French, Spanish and Italian.
