A CROSS Hills chemical firm is seeking a budding young scientist with the winning formula.

Airedale Chemical has signed-up to a Government scheme which aims to produce a new generation of apprentices with the skills and expertise needed in the industry.

And as part of the initiative, the manufacturer is taking on a recruit in its dye laboratory.

“We’re looking for an ambitious and passionate candidate who wants to start their career at a company steeped in experience,” said finance director, Craig Thomson.

“We believe the scheme will be invaluable to the future of the company and this is an amazing opportunity for the successful applicant to make a flying start to their scientific career, with a permanent position in our lab.

“We’re planning to roll out more apprenticeship initiatives in the future across other departments, providing a renewed range of skillsets throughout the business.

“This is also a fantastic opportunity for us to create more local jobs.”

He said the ideal candidate would be a motivated post-A-level student with excellent grades in chemistry and mathematics, a keen eye for design and an interest in dye science.

Mr Thomson added: “This company was founded on dye chemicals more than 40 years ago so the successful candidate would benefit from our heritage and decades of experience, learning highly-useful skills ‘on the job’.”

The scheme is supported by the Airedale Foundation – the firm’s charitable arm – which so far this year has funded a new education partnership and community defibrillator and sponsored several sports associations.

Airedale Chemical – established in 1973 – provides chemicals and contract manufacturing to markets including agriculture, dairy, water treatment and waste management.
