A HOUSEBUILDER with a scheme in Silsden has hired three new apprentices.

Harron Homes, whose developments include The Banks in Sykes Lane, appointed the trio after a series of interviews and assessments.

The successful candidates – Elliot Edwards, Jordan Sayles and Dylon Collett – were chosen from 18 finalists, shortlisted by a Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) apprentice co-ordinator.

Following a fortnight-long trial, during which the apprentices will have the chance to try their hand at various trades, there will be the option of a permanent contract and level-three apprenticeship in their chosen field.

Steve Holmes, construction director at Harron Homes Yorkshire, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for our three apprentices.

"The candidates faced some stiff competition and we are confident we've managed to find the best of the best.

"The apprenticeship scheme provides youthful ideas to our business and aims to bring skilled trade and management staff to the industry."

Susan Geary, apprenticeship officer at the CITB, said she was delighted for the new recruits.

"This is a wonderful chance for them to get onsite experience and kickstart their careers in construction," she added.

"Apprentices are the lifeblood of our industry and with over 158,000 new construction jobs to open up over the next five years, schemes like this are vital.

"We look forward to working again with Harron Homes in facilitating future apprentice schemes."
