A 98-year-old man was taken to Airedale Hospital after an accident in a Keighley department store.

The man banged his head after his carer stumbled and lost his grip on the wheelchair while on an escalator at Beales in Hanover Street.

A fire crew was called to assist and gave oxygen and first aid before the arrival of an ambulance.

“The chair had slipped part way up the escalator but someone pressed the emergency stop button,” said watch commander Andy Quinn, from Keighley fire station.

“The gentleman wasn’t seriously hurt but was taken to hospital for a check-up.”

The accident happened at around 2.30pm on Sunday.
