Wharfedale Triangle League Premier Division: Crossflatts Village 2 Keighley Town 1

Crossflatts kept their slender league title hopes alive with a hard-fought win over local rivals Keighley Town.

Village edged the first half and went ahead after some exquisite play on 20 minutes, which was disputed by Town who claimed the goal should have been disallowed for offside.

The ball found its way to Michael Garnett who unselfishly played the ball to man of the match Ollie Metcalfe who made no mistake from just inside the box.

Keighley came more into the game after the break but Flatts increased their lead.

They made a substitution after an hour which proved to be vital. Stephen Schofield replaced his brother Colin Schofield and it took him only minutes to repay his manager’s faith in him, when he broke through the away defence, out-muscled a Town centre-back before slotting home to double his side’s lead.

Town got one back with 10 minutes remaining through Danny McHugh and pushed for an equaliser but the Flatts back four kept them at bay to secure a vital three points.

The visitors had chances to equalise but Village claimed the spoils to earn revenge after Town had knocked them out of the League Cup semi-finals a few weeks ago.

Flatts are currently sat in third place in the table with two games to go – one is at home to leaders Yeadon Vets on Sunday and the other is against second-placed Sky Bet on April 23.

Sky Bet also have to play Shipley Town on April 20, knowing that a win will secure them the league title if Yeadon fail to beat Crossflatts.

Flatts need to win both games and hope Shipley can do them a favour.
