Alliance Division One League Trophy third round: Wetherby Reserves 0 Oxenhope Reserves 2

OXENHOPE secured their place in the quarter-finals after overcoming a young, energetic home side that started strongly.

The hosts tested Rec keeper Eddie Jackson with a one-on-one but the young custodian stood tall and palmed the ball over.

The tie swung from end to end with Connor Pepper and Will Lee both going close for the visitors.

Oxenhope gained the initiative but keeper Jackson had to be alert when Wetherby broke on the counter-attack. He blocked the initial shot and was quick to react and save the follow-up.

The visitors continued to press forward and midway through the half took the lead when Paul Quinlan unleashed a powerful shot that was deflected into the net off Lee.

Oxenhope had a chance to double their tally soon after when Luke Snowden broke down the right, cut into the box and smashed his shot against the bar.

Captain Rob Pullan thought he had made it two when, from a corner, he headed against the bar. He was first to react, striking the ball goalwards, only to see the ball hooked away.

In the final minutes of the first half, Oxenhope added their second. Andy Fox received the ball on the edge of the box and he chipped it into Pepper, who slotted home.

Wetherby came out strongly after the break but man of the match Jackson pulled off two top-drawer saves to maintain a clean sheet.

At the other end, Lee, Snowden, Quinlan and Danny Makinson all went close in an even second 45 minutes. On Saturday they travel to Hartshead Reserves in a league fixture (2.30pm).

Oxenhope Res: Jackson, Ellison, Quinlan, Pullan, Fothergill, Fox (Wellard), Makinson, Scott J (Duffin), Pepper (Holden), Lee, Snowden.
