THE Skipton Inter District Veterans team made a reasonable start to this year's event against a strong West Riding but ended up sharing the winners in the home and away legs, but losing 24-32 overall after three bad results.

In the home match at Broughton Road there was some poor bowling at times throughout the team where the winners were Idris Wade, David Jacques, John Parkin and skipper Derek Seed.

It was a little better away at Overthorpe Sports where the winners after some tight games were Trevor Hargreaves, Alan Downing, David Hemsley and selector Alistair Keighley. Their next match is on Friday, May 18 against Huddersfield, who also lost their first match against Wakefield.

Richard Hargreaves, of Keighley BC, has qualified for the Intermediate Rounds of the Hillcrest Classic the hard way by winning both his first two matches, 31-30.

There are a few Yorkshire ABA team events scheduled for Saturday before the first round proper on Saturday, June 2, and both Broughton Road teams feature this Saturday.

Their Yorkshire Cup team face Elland WMC at Crossgates, while their mixed team meet Lower Hopton at Ladyhill Park, both starting at 2.30pm.

The Aire-Wharfe Shipley Merit is scheduled for Sunday at the Shipley Club from 9.30am.
