THE finals of the Skipton League’s team knock-out events will be held on Thursday August 30, at venues yet to be announced.

The Clarkson Cup Final will feature Sutton A v Rolls Royce and the Supplementary Final will be between Cononley A and surprise package Whinfield B. The latter defeated top team Colne Cricket with some good efforts plus a large amount of start, while Cononley A had nine winners to beat a plucky Craven by 14 points.

Sutton had a comfortable win over Colne Legion A with Andy Tate, Jason Jennings and Craig Smith recording easy wins, while Rolls Royce had a 20-point victory over Whinfield A.

Latest positions in the Skipton League’s four division set up are as follows; Merit League: Colne CC, Sutton A, Gargrave B and Grassington. 54321 League: Keighley A, SPF A, Craven A and Rolls Royce B.

The Skipton Inter-District team made the trip to the Yorkshire ABA’s Inter-District event in Harrogate, where they were paired with Halifax and Huddersfield at Wayside BC and sadly left early after a lesson in bowling by both opponents.

Against Halifax, the locals had only one winner in Robbie Ellis whilst it was almost as bad against Huddersfield in game two when Skipton only recorded two winners in David Jacques and Phil Dowgill. Huddersfield were the eventual winners against the West Riding but by then the locals had gone home to lick their wounds.

It was almost as bad for the Aire-Wharfe B team in the Federation match against South Lakes where they were soundly beaten, especially in the away leg.

They managed five local winners in the home leg at Broughton Road in the shape of Dennis and Kevin Mackie, Daryll Gore, Mick Upton and Dave Smith.

Broughton Road is the venue for the next Veteran’s Inter-District match against Castleford on Friday at 1.30pm, where local hopes are high after a recent victory over the same side in the Hickson Trophy. The away team travel to Castleford Town.

It is also the venue for the Skipton Merit finals on Sunday but no time of start has been listed as yet.

The Yorkshire ABA’s Mixed Pairs event for the Paul Sigsworth Memorial Trophy is at Heckmondwike on Sunday at 10.30am.
