KEIGHLEY Cougars are on the lookout for volunteers to help set up and run a new supporters' club.

The club has been without a supporters' club for a number of years since the days of Cougarmania came to end, but has been supported by the Squadbuilder fund in that time.

The idea behind the reintroduction of a supporters' club at Cougar Park is to allow the club and its fans to engage and improve relations following a breakdown in communication over recent years.

A supporters' club would be given the reins to organise fundraising events to help raise monies for use of buying equipment and the upkeep of Cougar Park as well as been given the opportunity to organise other festivities such as off-field events and meet and greets with the coaches and players.

The supporters' club would run parallel to the club's current Squadbuilder fund in which supporters pay a £11 per month membership fee to contribute towards the club’s playing staff and from the start of this season, an expert rugby league statistician to aid Craig Lingard’s post-match reviews.

And while the Squadbuilder fund has seen a rise in members and monies donated to help towards the playing squad and coaching staff during the recent off-field troubles, general manager Steve Gill is keen to see the return of a supporters' club.

Speaking of the proposal, Gill said: "I have been fortunate to see the difference what a good supporters' club can do within a club's infrastructure at the Castleford Tigers.

"It brings together lots of different people who wish to see their club do well, and have some fun in doing so, hopefully we can make the Hall of Fame Bar a home for the Keighley Cougars Supporters' Club."

The Keighley Cougars Supporters Club will hold their first meeting in the Clever Energy Boilers Hall of Fame bar on Thursday, August 30, at 6.30pm.
