TREVOR Hargreaves and David Hemsley continued their winning run in veteran doubles events when they comfortably won the Hebden Bridge Pairs, beating the Ripponden pairing of Brian Winrow and Sue Griffiths 15-4 in a one-sided game.

In other veteran matches, Keighley have been relegated from the top flight in the Hebden League after some poor efforts, but Oxenhope survived in the Halifax Veterans League after securing the necessary points at home to Brighouse, who fielded a strong team.

Silsden Ladies played their last league match in the Yorkshire Ladies League against Moldgreen, three points ahead of old rivals Linthwaite C and BC A this week, full report next week.

The Norman Johnston Floodlit Handicap was completed at Addingham with several local representatives, including holder Neil Hargreaves.

Leading positions in the three divisions of the Skipton Floodlit League are occupied at present by Cononley A, Colne Legion A and Colne Legion B.

The Hebden Bridge Old Town pairs reaches its conclusion on Friday, where the holders Richard and Neil Hargreaves will take some dislodging as they go for a three-timer, while the Worth Valley End of Season Doubles is at Keighley BC on Sunday, which rounds off the season.

A popular sight at Keighley will sadly be missing on Sunday as one of its leading members, David Haldenby, has died after a short illness.

David was a hard working member of the club at almost every level and will be hard to replace. A former publican in Denholme, he was the husband of club secretary Noreen, the secretary of the club, and captain of the C team. Condolences to her and all their family.

Equally sad news this week was the death of Joe Haigh after a long illness. He was the member of a famous bowling family from Oxenhope and although he had not played for many years, was originally associated with Cross Roads BC. Our sympathy to all his family including his well-known son Paul, a master bowler on his day.
