Hallmark Security League - Division One North: Steeton 4 Chadderton 2

STEETON put two poor league results behind them to record a 4-2 win over Chadderton last night at Cougar Park.

After dominating the early stages, Steeton should have taken the lead when a smart interchange between Andy Briggs and Ben Clarkson saw the latter strike the foot of the post before Chadderton took the lead against the run of play through Ryan Shenton.

The lead didn't last long, however.

A cross-cum-shot from Tom Leach evaded everyone and ended up nestling in the bottom corner.

Briggs then put Steeton ahead before Ben Richardson's shot deflected over the keeper to give Steeton a 3-1 half-time advantage.

The visitors were back in the game though when the referee harshly awarded a penalty against Leach when it appeared that the Chadderton striker stood on his foot.

Shenton made no mistake, drilling the ball home.

At the other end, Steeton were also awarded a spot-kick as Briggs was fouled.

Up stepped Jordan Wilmore but the keeper guessed right and kept the penalty out.

However, it was Briggs who sealed a man-of-the-match performance with a late fourth.

There was even time for Bobby Carter to go close with a couple of efforts, and Briggs also went close to completing his hat-trick with the last kick of the game.

The win moves Steeton up to eighth before their trip to St Helens on Saturday.
