Thackley u18s 1

Steeton u18s 6

STEETON'S young guns cruised to another win with an all-round good performance.

Thackley struggled to get to grips with what Steeton were doing and got stretched time and time again in the first 15 minutes.

A quick throw-in by Will Kaye found Dominic Westcott, just inside Thackley's 18-yard box, he fired in a low cross for Harry Farnell to control and finish and the near post.

The second goal followed quickly when Will Kaye sold the defender a dummy on the edge of the box, turning on to his left and chip the goalkeeper, who could only stand and watch the ball float past him. But the ball hit the underside of the bar and stayed out. Quickest to react was Tom Crossland, who headed towards goal only for the the keeper to scramble back and save on the line. Dominic Westcott had also followed up and managed to tap the ball home from close range.

Number three was soon to follow as Steeton dominated proceedings. Kaye picked the ball up in midfield, got his head up and threaded a perfectly-weighted pass through the defence to find the run by Farnell to score his second.

Thackley started the second half with a lot more endeavour and put Steeton under pressure. The host's big striker, who was putting himself about, picked up a pass on the right-hand side, flighted over a lovely ball to the back post and was volleyed home by the Thackley midfielder.

Steeton kept calm and Tom Crossland restored his side's three-goal advantage again, following good work down the left-hand side by Farnell and Westcott.

Farnell was to get his hat-trick soon after when he collected the Thackley goalkeeper's kick and drove forward towards goal, outsprinting the defender, dribbling round the goalkeeper and tap into an empty net.

Number six followed when Harrison Houldsworth burst forward and found Farnell who, in turn, found Dominic Westcott on the edge of Thackley’s box. He dropped his shoulder left, moved the ball to the right and curled the ball into the bottom left-hand corner of the net.

The game with a lot of confusion when Steeton broke forward and, just as Crossland was about to role the ball into the net, the referee blew his whistle stopping play.

He then sent off the Thackley linesman for being abusive towards him. On waiting for the restart, a Thackley player said something to the referee who then sent him off as well. He abandoned the game with five minutes remaining.
