THE Hawks Cricket Club finished the 2018 season with an impressive nine-wicket win over Arthington CC last Saturday.

The home club opted to bat first and in their 40 overs they made a respectable 157 for 7 with S Mace top scoring with 33, Adam Pothcary making 30 and Joe Nash 29.

For the visitors Will Parker bowled very well with a return of 3 for 18 off six imaginative overs, and the Hawks were helped by some good fielding from Simon Young and Charlie Parker Jnr, who took two and three fine catches respectively.

After an excellent tea, the visitors openers took full advantage of the good pitch unleashing a flurry of boundaries in an opening stand of 151 in just 14 overs.

With Charlie Parker Jnr striking 69 (including four sixes and nine fours) and Tom Lester 85 not out (which included six sixes 11 fours), the Hawks cruised to 161 for 1 in 15.2 overs.

The Hawks finished the season having played 19, winning 16, drawing two, with just one loss.

Sadly though, despite the lovely summer, seven matches were cancelled for reasons of weather, ground or lack of opposition.

However a good number of new members have become involved and new members are also invited for the 2019 season.
