FARSLEY Celtic remain ninth in the Evo-Stik League Premier Division, just two points behind fifth-placed Buxton after the sides played out a 1-1 draw at Throstle Nest.

It was a good game despite the fierce wind and Farsley had gone close twice before finally breaking the deadlock. Midway through the first half they gained a free-kick and Will Hayhurst’s excellent delivery was headed home by Jack Higgins.

The Bucks, though, are a hard team to beat on their travels and they equalised just 10 minutes later as Bradley Roscoe caught sight of goal from outside the area and hit a shot that flew past Celts keeper Kyle Trenerry.

Into the second half and Farsley centre-back Higgins denied the visitors with a goal-line clearance after Trenerry could only parry a shot, but the Celts also had late chances as both sides continued to battle the conditions and go in search of the three points.

There was no league action for Brighouse Town but they did beat their East Division rivals Morpeth Town 4-3 to progress in the FA Trophy.

The preliminary round draw had not been kind to Brighouse as it handed them an away tie at the table-toppers but, despite the Highwaymen being awarded two penalties, Vill Powell’s Town claimed a confidence-boosting win.

Zeph Thomas had given the visitors an 18th-minute lead with a deflected shot but Morpeth bounced back to lead 2-1 at the break. Iulian Petrache had volleyed them level in the 38th minute and Liam Henderson netted a penalty following a handball in the area on the stroke of half-time.

Brighouse were level just two minutes into the second half when home defender Michael Turner inadvertently steered Gabby Johnson’s driven cross past his own keeper.

Aaron Martin nodded in to put Town back in front when home keeper Tom Robinson could only parry a shot from Thomas. However, Henderson was later fouled in the area and got up to net the resulting spot-kick to level the tie again.

But, with less than six minutes remaining, Martin bagged his brace as he converted a Sam Wright free-kick with a powerful header.
