THE weather hit back with a vengeance causing the postponement of the Ladies Top Team event at Heckmondwike which featured Silsden Ladies.

Sunday's event has been postponed until early next season in time for the winners to qualify for the British finals.

The weather was also bad at Idle where the Aire-Wharfe Champion of Champions was completed in atrocious conditions.

It was won by Ben Ullock, of Burley, but by the time of the last eight, the various locals in the event from our area had been washed away.

The Yorkshire Parks Veterans completed their season by just defeating Staffordshire, the bottom team, to win the title again ahead of old rivals South Yorkshire.

Of the few locals at present in the team, David Hemsley secured a narrow win to help the cause.

The final event in the area will be at Craven BC on Sunday, weather permitting, which is another popular ‘32’, commencing at 10am, with a strong field.

The draw will be made greenside just before the start as groups begin at the following times: 10am: M Hall, A Thornton, R Hargreaves, A Harrison, M Armitage, M Duke, A Riley, L Teale; 10.45am: K Lee, A Buckley, B Robinson, B Stockdale, B Turnbull, M Holden, S Whitaker, T Cater; 11.15am: J Teale, P Hillam, T Hargreaves, V O’Donnell, D Poole, D Rowson, K Siddle, D Norris; 11.45am: J Stockdale, M Sweeney, J Bowes, F Whitaker, A Gallagher, B McCourt, A Tate, W Gilroy.

One tinge of sadness during the summer season is the number of players and supporters that have died this year. Condolences to all concerned.
