FORMER England internationals could be in opposition tomorrow when sixth-placed Bradford Salem take on eighth-placed Beverley in Yorkshire Division One at Shay Lane.

Salem, of course, have winger Dan Scarbrough, who was capped twice at 15-a-side but has also representing his country in four international sevens tournaments.

Facing the 40-year-old could be 35-year-old No 8 Ben Skirving, heads of rugby at Hull’s Hymers College, who has likewise been capped by England at full level and sevens.

“Mind you, ‘Scabs’ will be lucky to keep his place after his gaffe last week at Old Rishworthians,” laughed Salem’s chairman Neil Klenk.

“Nick Fontaine drew the last defender and all Dan had to do was catch the ball and stroll over, but he dropped it.

“It was a schoolboy error and I bet that he hasn’t done that before in his life.”

Klenk added: “I am surprised that Beverley have lost two, and particularly the one against Hullensians – Heath on the other hand was a tough fixture – as I had them as one of my promotion favourites alongside Middlesbrough.”

Keighley also have home advantage but the bottom-of-the-table side will have to be at their best to defeat third-placed Moortown.

Cleckheaton and Bradford & Bingley both have injury issues in North One East.

The improving Bees are without props Alex Keeton, Roger Raper and Andy Smith at Driffield, as well as hooker Sam White and flanker or centre Ali Macdonald.

However, one thing in the visitors’ favour is their fitness, which helped them score five tries in the closing stages of their home win over Pocklington last week.

Cleckheaton, who conceded two late tries in their 34-31 defeat at home to West Leeds, are also lacking forwards, and particularly loose forwards, for their trip to leaders York.

“Our attack is good but our defence is not,” said Cleckheaton’s Thiu Barnard, “but let’s see if we can surprise York.”

Old Grovians, who are set to hand a debut to centre Luke Hope-Robinson and recall Matthew Wainwright, who is travelling down from Scotland, and Josh Dixon, host Wetherby in Yorkshire Division Two, with both sides in need of points near the bottom.

Also back for the Apperley Bridge side is Alex Masterson, but Sam Pickering is out with a dislocated thumb.

Baildon, at Knottingley in Yorkshire Division Three, also need a win.

Wibsey, who are still on a maximum points haul after five matches in Yorkshire Division Four North West, have a rare derby at Bramley Phoenix.

The leaders are without John Bradbury, Scott Smith, Ryan Goldsborough and Jamie Vogel (hamstring), but give fly-half Luke Helliwell a seasonal debut.

Wibsey (at Bramley Phoenix): B Wright; J Payton, N Marchant, A Robinson, B Mpofu; L Helliwell, K Carter; S Birkbeck, J Brown, A Cerson, E Cousins, M Grimes, M Darragh, M Kite, L Wilson. Replacements: D Carr, R Simpson, J Tordoff, B Naylor, I Khan.
