SILSDEN’S October woes in the North West Counties Premier Division continued as they slumped to a heavy 5-0 defeat at mid-table 1874 Northwich.

The home side were 11th before the Cobbydalers’ visited the St Luke’s Barton Stadium but showed they weren’t afraid of standing up to the fourth-placed Cobbydalers.

Taylor Kennerley gave the home side a sixth-minute lead and, despite Silsden keeper Sam Lee saving a 42nd minute penalty, Northwich still led 2-0 at the break. Lee parried McGown’s spot kick but the striker followed up to net the rebound.

The home side added their third eight minutes into the second half when Matt Woolley headed past Lee from a free-kick.

The home side were awarded a second penalty, this time for a foul on Jack Irlam in the 57th minute, and McGowan made no mistake with that one.

It was a case of what could go wrong did go wrong for Danny Forrest’s side on the day, and the final goal was also from a set-piece. Lee had picked up a back-pass and the resulting indirect free-kick was rolled back to Kyle Riley who drilled it home.

* STEETON let a two-goal lead slip when they were held to a 3-3 draw at AFC Liverpool in Division One on Friday night.

The first half was a tale of two penalties as a clumsy challenge midway through gifted the Reds a spot-kick and Rhys Hardaker netted. But just minutes before the break Andy Briggs was fouled and Aaron Hollindrake levelled from 12 yards.

The Chevrons took a firm grip on the game with two goals inside a three-minute spell just after the hour mark. Hollindrake headed home a Toby Jeffrey cross to bag his brace before Briggs used his strength to burst through and beat the home keeper.

Fourth-placed AFC Liverpool were not about to roll over, and James McGrane ensured a nervous ending before Jordan Foster netted a stoppage-time equaliser.

The Chevrons tumbled two places to tenth after the rest of the clubs played their games on Saturday.
