Lepton Highlanders 0

A GRAHAM Holmes hat-trick steered Steeton to a comprehensive win over Lepton Highlanders in the West Riding County Amateur League Premier Division.

The hosts came close to open the scoring but Brannan Lawns shot just went wide of the post. Steeton kept pushing forward but couldn’t break down the lepton defence. After 30 minutes Steeton had a corner and Casey Dowthwaite found Ben Cox on the edge of the box who volleyed from 20 yards into the bottom corner.

This spurred on Steeton to try and get the second goal, but Lepton kept battling hard and frustrated Steeton to keep the score 1-0 going into half time.

On the hour mark Ryan Walker hit a free-kick on to the crossbar which rebounded back to Nathan Storton, who headed back towards goal only for the keeper to push it over the bar.

Two changes were made on the hour mark, Joe Flaherty replaced Duncan Steel at right-back and Josh Debenham came on for Jack Richmond in midfield.

Ben Cox played a through ball for Holmes to run on to and he chipped the ball over the keeper from just inside the box to make it 2-0.

Debenham crossed a ball from the left midfield to find Dowthwaite who couldn’t convert and hit the post only for the keeper to collect the ball.

Holmes beat the off-side trap and squared a ball to Debenham to convert only for the referee to blow for offside. Sam Fox replaced Lawn who went into left-back.

Another through ball from Cox saw Holmes one-on-one with the keeper, who slotted home to make it 3-0.

Cox again broke through midfield into the box for the defender to foul before getting his shot away and the referee awarded a penalty. Holmes stepped up and smashed the ball to the keeper's right to complete his hat-trick.
