Harrogate Railway u18s 3

Steeton u18s 1

STEETON'S young chevrons crashed out of the county cup with an under-par performance at Harrogate Railway.

With the away ground nearer York than Harrogate and a 10am kick-off, you could easily make that the excuse for not performing.

But it was the second half that let the young guns down, as the first period they performed well, limiting Harrogate to no more than long range efforts that Elliot Wilson in goal was more than equal to with a few fine saves to keep them at bay.

Steeton started well with Dominic Westcott being a threat down the left linking up well with full-back Tom Ormerod and striker Jordan Daniels, but just couldn't find that all-important final part to finish the moves off.

Steeton were dealing comfortably with what Harrogate where doing and dangerously hit them on the break several times.

It was a break away and Westcott who took Steeton into the lead. He picked ball up 20 yards from his own net and drove forward, with the outside of his right boot played a lovely ball into the flying Harry Farnell, who skipped round the keeper and slotted home with a fine finish.

Steeton thought they had made it two shortly after when a ball was played up to Farnell he flicked it on to the well timed run from midfield from Tom Crossland. He slotted the ball home but the referee blew his whistle for offside.

Right on half time Harrogate won a free-kick 25 yards from goal, which was floated to the back post that Steeton did not deal with and Harrogate got an equaliser.

Steeton started the second period flat and found that all of their passes they could make in the first half all of a sudden seemed difficult.

That made Harrogate grow in confidence and start to dominate the game. But it was Steeton who nearly took the lead when good football down the right with Crossland, Daniels and Zain Hussain resulted in the latter flighting a nice ball to the back post for Farnell to get his head on it, but sadly came back out of the post with the keeper beaten.

Harrogate punished Steeton when they flighted over a corner kick and was met with a great header from Harrogate midfielder to take the lead. Then shortly after they made it 3-1 with a scrappy goal 10 minutes from the end.
