THACKLEY edged a point further away from danger in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division as they came from behind twice in a 2-2 draw with Bottesford Town at Dennyfield.

The Dennyboys never got going before the break and it was no surprise when Bottesford broke the deadlock.

Their striker Jack McMenemy met a good ball into the area in the 35th minute and steered a low shot into the net.

The Dennyboys improved after half-time and substitute Jordan Hendrie netted their first equaliser.

Jordan Hines broke into the area from the left and after drawing the keeper, he laid the ball square for Hendrie to tap in.

Bottesford edged back in front when McMenemy met a diagonal cross from Joe Edwards with a towering header. But Thackley hit back on the counter attack after blocking an opposition free-kick.

They broke away and a good cross was headed home by Dan Broadbent, another substitute.

Either side could have won it late on. Thackley’s Asa Mitchell hit the post with a long-range effort and Edwards clipped the hosts' bar with an injury-time free kick.

Thackley chairman Ben Oliver said: “We’ll take a point from a game against a club in the top ten, given where we are in the league.

“All of the substitutes did well and we’re lucky to have players of that quality.

"We’ve had a lot of injuries lately so these players are unfortunate not to be starting, but it shows we have a squad that can compete.

“There are enough games left for us to get the points we need to move up the table.”

Thackley’s neighbours Eccleshill United helped out with a hard-fought away win at basement outfit Harrogate Railway Athletic.

The Rail snatched a late goal to make it 3-2 but the Eagles held on in a frantic finale.

The home side went ahead early on through Aaron Kitao but Andy Cooper soon headed the visitors level, before Adam Shaw scored his first Eccleshill goal to put them 2-1 up.

Shaw bagged his brace after reacting quickest to the home keeper's 48th minute parry but Fraser Lancaster ensured a nervy ending.

His superb strike was not enough though, and the defeat leaves the Rail rock-bottom and four points behind Thackley.

Campion moved joint top of Division One following a 4-0 home win over strugglers Skegness Town, who ended the game with ten men.

Jason Carney opened the scoring before Aiden Day bagged a first half brace. Skegness were then a man down after George Hobbins picked up a second yellow card.

Midway through the second period, Matthias Britton added a fourth from close range.

Leaders Winterton Rangers were held to a draw, so only goal difference separates them and Campion.
