THE league remains FA Cup giantkillers Guiseley's number one priority, according to joint-manager Marcus Bignot.

The Lions set up a second round date with Joey Barton's League One side Fleetwood Town, after beating League Two outfit Cambridge United 4-3 in the competition's first round on Sunday. Despite a late scare, goals from Will Hatfield, Cliff Moyo, Kaine Felix and Kingsley James were enough to send them through.

But Hatfield missed out on the BBC's goal of the round prize for his wonder strike against Cambridge. He gained 12 per cent of the online vote, but Lincoln City's Bruno Andrade won the honour with 23 per cent for his goal against Northampton Town.

Now Guiseley hope to continue their cup exploits when they return to Vanarama National League North action on Saturday.

Bignot's men face a tough return to the bread and butter of the league with the visit of fifth-placed Spennymoor Town.

He hopes last week's giant-killing has not taken too much out of his 15th-placed side as they look to climb the table.

Bignot said the league always takes priority, but said the Cambridge victory will live long in his and Guiseley supporters' memories.

He said: "The league is so, so important.

"Teams have played in the league while we've been in the cup, we can't control that. We now have an opportunity to get some points on the board. Spennymoor are in the play-offs for a reason. It will give us a chance to gauge how far we have come.

"I went through every emotion imaginable against Cambridge. What a performance from the boys.

"I don't want to go through the last five minutes of that game again. But it will only make us better from going through that experience.

"It is a game that will live long in the memory. Football is so unpredictable. We were cruising at 4-0 and should have had a penalty and that could have made it 5-0."

Bignot is also looking forward to locking horns with former Manchester City midfielder Barton on the touchline at Nethermoor next month.

Bignot added: "First and foremost it is a home draw for our supporters. For our younger players, it is an opportunity to showcase their talents, for our senior players they have the chance to make some more memories. It is a league up with Fleetwood, technically they are better.

"We will have to be at our best to have any chance at all. It will be a difficult game, but an exciting game as well."

Meanwhile, Guiseley have been drawn away against Lancaster City in the first round of the FA Trophy.

The giant-killing Lions will visit the Evo-Stik League Premier Division side on Saturday, November 24.
